Produced from 1967 to 1978, this landmark component represents the historic transition of the high-end audio industry from vacuum tubes to transistors. It permanently defined the aesthetic and technological identity of modern McIntosh amplification.Birth of the Iconic Visual IdentityPrior to 1967, McIntosh was celebrated for its high-performance tube gear like the famous MC275. The MC2105 revolutionized the brand's visual language by introducing the design features still used today: [1, 2, 3, 4]The Blue Meters: It was the first model to feature the signature dual teal/blue illuminated power output meters.Glass Faceplate: It established the heavy black glass front panel paired with industrial, hand-wired aluminum and steel craftsmanshipKey Technological InnovationsTransistors in the late 1960s were notorious for harsh, sterile distortion compared to tubes. To combat this, McIntosh integrated several proprietary technologies into the MC2105 to replicate the smooth musicality of their classic gear: [1, 2]Output Autoformers: Unlike traditional direct-coupled solid-state amps, the MC2105 utilized heavy, iron-core autoformers. This design isolates the transistors and forces the output stage to see a consistent electrical load. This architecture guarantees the full 105 watts of power is safely delivered regardless of whether the speaker is rated at 4, 8, or 16 ohms.Sentry Monitor System: An early, advanced protection circuit that automatically monitors the output current. It cuts off power safely in the event of a speaker short-circuit or massive impedance mismatch, preventing catastrophic transistor failure without degrading audio signal quality.About Capital City Guitars:We are a small brick and mortar music store, we take pride in earning the respect of our customers. About McIntosh

McIntosh Laboratory, founded in 1949 in the United States by Frank H. McIntosh and Gordon Gow, embodies a storied heritage of American audio innovation. Originally based in Silver Spring, Maryland, before relocating to Binghamton, New York, where products are still handcrafted today, the brand emerged from a commitment to superior sound reproduction. From powering President Lyndon Johnson's inauguration to the Grateful Dead's Wall of Sound at Woodstock, McIntosh has shaped pivotal moments in music history and pop culture, earning its place as a cultural icon.

The company specializes in a comprehensive lineup of high-fidelity components, including renowned amplifiers—particularly its revered tube models for their warm, enveloping sound—along with solid-state power amps, stereo tuners, loudspeakers, turntables, music streamers, processors, and digital-to-analog converters. This breadth supports both two-channel stereo systems and multi-channel home theaters, delivering immersive experiences in music and film. Iconic blue watt meters on their gear have become globally recognized symbols of precision and power.

Positioned firmly in the high-end market, McIntosh commands respect among discerning audiophiles for its uncompromising quality, luxurious build, and timeless design. Far from mid-tier or niche boutique, it stands as a premium benchmark, favored by legendary musicians and producers across decades, blending vintage allure with modern performance for those who demand the ultimate in sonic fidelity.
