Digidesign was founded in 1984 in California by Peter Gotcher and Evan Brooks. It began as a pro-audio technology company, first developing tools for sound measurement and then moving into digital recording and editing, where it became closely associated with the rise of Pro Tools.
Its product focus was never the classic hi-fi categories of amplifiers, speakers, turntables, or headphones.
