Seller's Description

Linn Sondek LP12 Turntable This is an early model Linn Sondek LP12 turntable with Linn Ittok LVII arm and Supex 900 MkI cartridge. Price is negotiable.   My Father bought this in roughly 1983 and it is in good working condition and sounds great. I recently had it checked and serviced by Len Wallis (see video) and they were blown away by it and how well it had been looked after. I don't have a working moving coil amp setup but if you do then I am happy to deliver and connect for a demonstration so long as you are within the Sydney area.   The plinth is in good condition (see photos). Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Is AUD6,000 a smart buy for this used Linn Sondek LP12, or are you overpaying?

At AUD6,000, this listing sits at the ambitious upper end—right at the 75th percentile of recent comparable sales (median AUD3,975, with 25th at AUD3,785 and 75th at AUD6,459). Without specifics on the exact variant or upgrades (e.g., Cirkus/Trident bearing, Ekos arm), it's tough to call it a steal, but well-maintained LP12s in good cosmetic shape can justify the ask if they've got premium tweaks; otherwise, hunt for sub-AUD5,000 deals.

Before biting, verify the arm (Linn or aftermarket?) and essential accessories like the power supply, lid, and mat—many skips lead to surprises. Test for bearing noise or speed stability, common in 30+ year-old decks; insist on a full service history to dodge a money pit.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Linn

Linn Products: Brand Overview

Linn Products was founded in 1973 by Scottish engineer Ivor Tiefenbrun in Glasgow as a vehicle to manufacture the Sondek LP12 turntable, which would become the company's most iconic product and a cornerstone of high-fidelity audio. The brand emerged during the golden era of British hi-fi with a revolutionary "source first" philosophy—challenging the prevailing industry belief that loudspeakers mattered most by demonstrating that superior sound quality begins with the audio source. This foundational principle has guided the company's engineering ethos for over five decades.

Linn's product portfolio spans the complete hi-fi chain, from turntables and tonearms to preamplifiers, power amplifiers, and loudspeakers. The company introduced the world's first microprocessor-controlled preamplifier and power amplifier in 1985 (the LK1 and LK2), establishing itself as an electronics specialist. From 2007 onward, Linn pivoted toward digital music streaming, becoming an early adopter of network-based audio playback supporting studio master-quality recordings at 24-bit/192 kHz resolution, and discontinued CD player production in 2009 to focus on this strategic direction.

Linn occupies the high-end segment of the audio market, commanding respect among discerning audiophiles and collectors for its uncompromising engineering approach and longevity. The brand's reputation rests on meticulous product design, acoustic isolation principles, and a commitment to eliminating weak links in the signal chain—a philosophy that has made Linn one of the most influential manufacturers in hi-fi history and a benchmark for quality-focused audio engineering.
