Would you pay kr 1,500 for a long-life, premium-spec tube that’s getting genuinely scarce? For a Mullard E80CC, that asking price is fair to slightly strong in the used market, but not out of line if it’s a tested good example; these are pro-grade, long-life double triodes and the good ones have been climbing because supply is thin. The big question is whether this is a matched, tested piece with sensible remaining life, because at this level you want confidence, not just a logo.
What makes it worth chasing is the E80CC’s reputation for low noise, solidity, and long service life in revealing line stages and driver positions. If the seller can confirm test results and the tube isn’t microphonic, this is the kind of part that can be a real keeper rather than a placeholder. The main thing to assess is provenance and condition: without testing, a vintage tube at kr 1,500 is only attractive if you’re comfortable with some risk.

Mullard focused primarily on vacuum tubes—or "valves"—that powered high-fidelity amplifiers and professional recording equipment, alongside early transistors and audio drivers. Historical products like the 1960s Mullard 510 valve amplifier exemplified their expertise in hi-fi amplification, while their hand-assembled valves became staples in studio and home systems. Though not a modern maker of speakers, turntables, DACs, or headphones, their components influenced entire audio chains.
Today, Mullard holds a revered position as a vintage high-end icon among audiophiles and collectors, celebrated for the "Mullard sound"—warm, detailed, and musical.
