Seller's Description

Goodmans LS3/5a Bookshelf Loudspeakers Here is a pair of 15 ohm Goodmans LS3/5a with sequential serial numbers from a very well regarded brand and period in the production of LS3/5a. These absolutely have all of the wonderful attributes LS3/5a speakers are famous for. They work perfectly and sound fantastic. Before my time, they seem to have had a run in with something that discoloured areas of the veneer which is superficial. They are very reassuring to look at in person. The discolouration has simply buffed off the wood stain in some areas. The enclosures are actually in terrific form with m

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

This A$1,700 asking price for a Goodmans LS3/5a is a strong deal, sitting well below the typical used market where rare Goodmans pairs often command A$2,500 to A$3,500 or more. Recent listings show similar models priced near A$1,765, confirming this offer is competitive and represents genuine value for a collector seeking an authentic BBC-spec Goodmans unit.

Goodmans LS3/5a speakers are highly prized for their rarity and faithful reproduction of the BBC’s original design, delivering precise midrange clarity and tight bass that define the LS3/5a legacy. Their consecutive numbering and original ownership history add significant upside, making this a timely buying opportunity for enthusiasts who value provenance and performance without the premium attached to Falcon or Graham equivalents.

About Goodmans

Goodmans is a historic British audio brand founded in 1925 by Edward Stanley Newland in Wembley, London. The company emerged from Newland's early work reconditioning ex-army headphones, leveraging the premises of a business partner named Goodman. Over nearly a century, Goodmans established a deep heritage in British engineering, initially gaining prominence for its loudspeaker designs before expanding into a broader range of electronic equipment.

The brand is primarily known for its loudspeakers, which were considered leaders in design during the mid-20th century. Beyond speakers, Goodmans diversified into amplifiers, radio components, public address systems, and later in-car entertainment and digital television equipment. While they produced headphones and various consumer electronics, their core identity and market recognition remain firmly rooted in high-quality audio reproduction, particularly speakers and associated amplification.

In the modern market, Goodmans occupies a position as a respected vintage and heritage brand rather than a current high-end boutique. Its legacy appeals to collectors and enthusiasts who value classic British audio history, though the brand eventually transitioned its speaker OEM business to GLL while selling the consumer name to a low-cost electronics group. Today, it is viewed as a mid-tier historical name with significant nostalgic value, representing a bygone era of British audio innovation rather than a cutting-edge contemporary manufacturer.
