Seller's Description

Up for sale is a vintage NAD 3020 Series 20 integrated amplifier.Few amplifiers have earned the legendary reputation of the NAD 3020. Decades after its introduction, it remains one of the most respected and sought-after integrated amplifiers ever produced. This particular unit comes from the early years of production (1979), making it one of the more desirable versions among vintage audio enthusiasts. This amplifier has recently undergone a comprehensive restoration, including replacement of age-related components where necessary, removal of the original deteriorated adhesive, installation of new output transistor insulating pads, and a thorough inspection and performance check. The DC offset has been adjusted, and the bias current has been set according to the manufacturer's specifications.Unfortunately, a previous owner damaged one corner of the front panel, which has since been repaired. This is a well-known issue with early NAD 3020 amplifiers, as the plastic front fascia is particularly fragile. The repair is cosmetic only and does not affect the amplifier's performance or structural integrity. Overall, the amplifier remains in very good vintage condition with normal signs of use consistent with its age. Minor scratches, scuffs, discoloration, and other cosmetic imperfections may be present and may not always be fully visible in photographs. Please review all photos carefully, as they form an important part of the description. The amplifier is in excellent technical condition, performs exactly as intended, and is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.Important Vintage Equipment DisclaimerWhile this amplifier has been comprehensively restored and is operating properly at the time of sale, it remains a vintage electronic component that is more than 40 years old. Like any classic hi-fi equipment, it may eventually require routine maintenance, adjustment, or future repairs. This amplifier is not being represented as new or fully rebuilt, but rather as a carefully serviced vintage component that preserves its original character while operating as intended. It is offered to enthusiasts who understand and appreciate the unique qualities and occasional quirks of classic audio equipment. The amplifier will be professionally packed to ensure safe delivery. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or requests for additional pictures.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

US$550 is ambitious for a used NAD 3020, sitting well above the ground-truth median of US$308 and clearly exceeding the 75th percentile of US$381; this price is roughly double what a typical buyer should expect in the current used market. Unless the unit is pristine, original-owner condition with verified operation and rare accessories, the asking price feels overvalued compared to the standard range of US$266 to US$381.

The NAD 3020 remains a beloved classic for its warm, detailed sound and robust 20 watts per channel, often praised as the first affordable audiophile amplifier that delivered genuine performance without the bulk of giant receivers. Its meaningful upside lies in its historical significance and enduring quality, but at US$550, a buyer should demand proof of no corrosion, functioning controls, and healthy capacitors to justify the cost, as older units can suffer from age-related failures if not carefully maintained.

About NAD

NAD Electronics was founded in 1972 in London by a group of European audio importers frustrated with the hype surrounding Japanese hi-fi products. Led by visionary American executive Martin L. Borish and brilliant engineer Bjorn Erik Edvardsen, the company emerged from a quest to deliver high-performance audio at accessible prices. Their breakthrough came with the NAD 3020 integrated amplifier, the best-selling hi-fi amp in history, which embodied a philosophy of stripping away non-essentials to prioritize pure sound quality.

The brand focuses on core hi-fi categories, excelling in amplifiers—pioneering Class A/B, Class G, and hybrid digital designs—alongside integrated receivers, AV processors, turntables, CD and cassette players, and modern streamers. While not venturing into speakers, headphones, or cables, NAD emphasizes source components and amplification that integrate seamlessly into home theater and custom installation setups, always upholding principles of innovation, simplicity, performance, and value.

Today, as part of Canada's Lenbrook Group and sold in over 80 countries, NAD holds a commanding mid-tier position in the market, revered by audiophiles for affordable excellence rather than ultra-high-end excess. Its "Truth in Power" legacy earns cult status among knowledgeable buyers seeking reliable, award-winning gear that punches above its price, blending vintage heritage with contemporary streaming and hybrid tech.
