Coral was a Japanese audio brand founded in 1968 in Tokyo, and it is generally traced to Fukuyo Sound Co., Ltd. as an earlier company name or predecessor. The brand was active under the Coral Audio Corp. name in Japan and appears to have faded out by the 1980s, which is why much of what survives today is discussed in vintage-audio circles.
Coral is best known for loudspeakers and speaker drivers, especially full-range units, kit speakers, and a wide range of replacement or OEM drivers used by other manufacturers. The company also produced complete speaker systems, including the better-known SA-series models, but its reputation rests more on transducers and drivers than on amplifiers, turntables, DACs, or headphones.
In the market, Coral sits firmly in the vintage-collector category rather than the modern high-end mainstream. Its best-regarded products are sought after by enthusiasts for their distinctive Japanese engineering and historical interest, while some later or mass-market designs are viewed more as period curiosities than elite reference gear.
