Cartridge is almost brand new with a conservative 15 to 20 total hours. I also have the Hana ML along with many more and this one just doesn’t get enough play time so I figure it’s time to find it a new home and help fund another! Comes with all factory packaging and documentation. Free shipping at my price. I’ve sold a few carts here and on usam and have always gotten perfect feedback so please buy with confidence.
Notable because it’s a well-regarded low-output moving-coil with a Shibata stylus and strong current support, but the asking price is not a bargain. Hana lists the SL MK II at US$850, and multiple current references cluster at that figure, so US$475 lands at roughly 56% of new and looks like a very good used price rather than merely fair.
That makes it an appealing buy if the stylus is healthy and the hours are sensible. The SL MK II is praised for its smooth, detailed, well-tracked presentation, with a 0.4 mV output, 2 g tracking force, and a reputation for extracting a lot of performance without sounding fussy. If it’s from a careful owner and includes the box, guard, and any original paperwork, that adds real value; on a cartridge, those details matter because stylus wear and unknown history are the main risks.
Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.
Hana Cartridges emerged in 2016 from Excel Sound Corporation, a Tokyo-based firm with over 50 years of expertise in analog audio reproduction. Handcrafted in Yokohama, Japan, by skilled artisans under the guidance of master designer Masao Okada, the brand draws on traditional Japanese precision. The name "Hana," meaning "brilliant and gorgeous" in Japanese, reflects its heritage of meticulous assembly and laboratory testing at the factory, blending time-honored craftsmanship with modern engineering.
The brand specializes exclusively in moving coil phono cartridges, offering a focused lineup across series like E (elliptical), S (Shibata), M (microline), and premium Umami models with nude diamond or Urushi finishes. Configurations include high- and low-output variants, from entry-level EL/EH and SL/SH pairs to flagship MH/ML and the $3,950 Umami Red, all optimized for vinyl playback with options for mono and stereo tracking.
Hana holds a strong mid-tier position in the high-end phono cartridge market, celebrated for exceptional value, articulate detail, dynamic range, and musical warmth. Reviewers and audiophiles praise their "brilliant and gorgeous" sound—punchy yet refined—positioning them as accessible gateways to elite analog performance without stratospheric pricing, rivaling pricier competitors while appealing to discerning vinyl enthusiasts worldwide.
