Seller's Description

Spendor D9 Floorstanding Loudspeakers Nice pair of Spendor D9 speakers for sale, located in Ashgrove, Brisbane.   I have had these since August 2020.  They were previously owned by Bill who originally purchased them from Audiofix at the Sunshine Coast 18 months prior.   They are in very good condition except for a mark on the side of one of the speakers.  It isn't noticeable by just looking but I took a close up photo in the light- makes it look more obvious than it is.  Corners are all nice and pointy and no other marks I can see.   They do sound very nice but are a bit wasted in my small roo

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

At A$4,500, this Spendor D9 pair sits just below the 75th percentile of A$4,946 from our 49 recent AUD listings, making it a fair but not bargain price compared to the median of A$2,795. New pricing for the updated D9.2 model runs roughly A$16,000–A$17,000 (€9,995), so you’re still locking in solid value against current retail. The D9 remains a respected three-way floorstander with Kevlar bass cones and a 27Hz–25kHz bandwidth, delivering rich, dynamic sound that pairs well with moderate-to-high power amps.

This is a worthwhile buy for enthusiasts seeking room-filling performance without stepping into ultra-high-end territory. The very_good condition suggests minimal wear, and the listing likely includes spikes and fabric covers as standard. At under half the new D9.2 cost, the upside is clear: proven tonal balance, deep bass extension, and a classic British sound that still holds up today. No major caveats unless the finish shows hidden damage—but at this price, it’s a genuine opportunity.

About Spendor

Spendor, a quintessential British hi-fi brand, traces its origins to the late 1960s when BBC sound engineer Spencer Hughes and his wife Dorothy founded the company in Sussex, England—the name itself a clever fusion of "Spen" and "Dor." Drawing on Spencer's expertise alongside co-designer Dudley Harwood, they pioneered the BC1 loudspeaker in 1969, featuring the world's first commercial 8-inch plastic cone driver made from innovative Bextrene material. This breakthrough quickly established Spendor as the monitor of choice for broadcasters, recording studios, and discerning listeners worldwide, setting a benchmark for transparent, natural sound.

The brand focuses exclusively on loudspeakers, designing, engineering, and hand-building every driver, crossover, and cabinet in their Sussex facility. Their lineup spans the accessible A series for mainstream buyers, the premium D series for high-end performance, and the Classic line, which revives iconic designs like the BC1 with modern polymer and Kevlar cones, cast-magnesium chassis, and advanced motor systems. Spendor eschews amplifiers, turntables, or headphones, prioritizing pure speaker innovation rooted in BBC-honed precision.

Today, under owner Philip Swift since 2000, Spendor holds a revered position as a high-end, heritage British marque, blending vintage collector appeal with contemporary excellence. Renowned among audiophiles and professionals for smooth, low-distortion imaging and musicality, it remains a global reference standard, entirely made in the UK to captivate serious hi-fi enthusiasts.
