Nura was founded in 2015 in Melbourne, Australia, by Dr. Luke Campbell, Dr. Dragan Petrović, and Kyle Slater. The company emerged from a successful Kickstarter campaign and quickly gained attention for its innovative approach to audio, rooted in Campbell’s research into personalized hearing technology. As a tech-driven startup, Nura positioned itself as a pioneer in consumer electronics that adapts to the user rather than the reverse.

The brand is known exclusively for its headphones, most notably the Nuraphone, which combines in-ear and over-ear designs to measure otoacoustic emissions and tailor sound to the listener’s unique hearing profile. Unlike traditional manufacturers, Nura does not produce amplifiers, speakers, turntables, DACs, or cables. Its product focus remains tightly centered on wireless headphones that automatically tune themselves using proprietary software and over-the-air updates.

Nura occupied a niche boutique space in the high-end audio market, appealing to tech-savvy listeners seeking customization and cutting-edge engineering. However, the brand no longer sells Nura-branded products, having been effectively acqui-hired by Masimo (parent of Denon) in 2023.
