Amazon Echo is an Amazon smart-speaker brand that emerged from work inside Amazon’s Lab126 hardware group in Silicon Valley and Cambridge, Massachusetts, with development beginning around 2010–2011. The first Echo reached a limited launch in 2014 and then expanded to broader consumer availability in 2015; the line is closely tied to Amazon and its voice assistant, Alexa. Amazon itself was founded in the United States in 1994 by Jeff Bezos, but Echo is a later hardware extension of that company’s broader ecosystem.

Product-wise, Echo is known primarily for smart speakers and related smart displays, not for traditional hi-fi categories such as amplifiers, turntables, DACs, or headphones. The brand’s core appeal is voice control, streaming music playback, podcasts, audiobooks, alarms, reminders, and smart-home integration through Alexa.
