Our Thoughts RADAR AI

At A$1,500, this asking price is ambitious and well above the typical used market for the VPI Aries Scout, which usually sits around A$500–A$600. The listing price exceeds the 75th percentile by a significant margin, making it a tough deal unless the package includes rare extras or is in pristine original-owner condition.

The VPI Aries Scout is well-regarded for its smooth lifting mechanism, responsive tonearm, and dead-on 33.33 RPM motor, offering solid performance in a compact footprint. It’s a Class “B” entry in STEREOPHILE’s rankings and sells quickly on the used market when priced fairly. However, at this elevated price, buyers should verify the tonearm model, cartridge condition, and whether isolation feet or accessories are included to justify the cost. Without those, the value is questionable.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About VPI Industries

VPI Industries, founded in 1978 by Harry and Sheila Weisfeld in Cliffwood, New Jersey, emerged from a passionate family endeavor in Harry's basement. What began with simple record weights, isolation bases, and the groundbreaking HW-16 vinyl cleaning machine in 1981 evolved into a cornerstone of American analog audio innovation. Now led by Harry's son Mat Weisfeld, the family-owned company proudly manufactures all products in the USA using domestic components, embodying old-school craftsmanship amid global competition.

The brand specializes in high-end turntables, tonearms, and phonograph accessories, including iconic models like the TNT and the modular Forever Series, such as the upgradeable Model One. VPI also produces record cleaning machines and vibration isolation platforms, prioritizing uncompromising performance and value. While not venturing into amplifiers, speakers, DACs, headphones, or cables, their focus remains laser-sharp on analog playback essentials that deliver audiophile-grade precision.

VPI holds a commanding position in the high-end market as a niche boutique leader, revered for durable, upgradable designs and technical prowess that have sustained relevance through vinyl's ebbs and flows. Among knowledgeable buyers, it commands respect for engineering excellence and a heritage of innovation, positioning it as an essential choice for serious analog enthusiasts seeking timeless quality over fleeting trends.
