Seller's Description

Commercial Gieseler Audio PCM1704K Kompakt II Digital Analog Converter (DAC) Note - this uses two PCM1704K's + DF1704 matching digital filter so it is NOT a NOS DAC. Similar sounding to the NOS version but a little more detailed. It is built to very high standards using inductors in the power supply as well as gold tune Nichicon filter capacitors. These are similar component upgrades to what's used in the SE TDA DAC. The PCM1704K DACs are rated as eight times over sampling 24 bit/96K however it will handle 192K files fine. Note this is a brand new unit designed and built mid last year. It will

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

This is a fair ask, maybe a touch firm, but not out of line for this DAC. The cleanest current benchmark I can see is the maker’s own new price at A$1,350, while recent used listings for the same family of Kompakt II/PCM1704K units cluster around A$1,325 to A$2,250, with A$2,000 sitting in the upper-middle of that spread; that makes this more market-level than a bargain, but still plausible if condition and provenance are strong.

It’s worth buying because the PCM1704K-based Gieseler boxes are well liked for that dense, natural R-2R/ladder-DAC presentation: strong tone, good flow, and a non-fatiguing top end that suits long listening sessions. If it’s genuinely tidy, original-owner, and comes with the right PSU/cable and packaging, that helps justify the ask; at this price I’d mainly want confirmation that everything is stock and operating properly, rather than hunting for a discount.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

The brand operates as an Australian boutique audio equipment manufacturer, though specific founding details, founder name, and exact establishment year are not clearly documented in these sources.

Gieseler Audio specializes in digital-to-analog converters (DACs), with their product line including both compact "Klein" (small) and larger "Groß" (big) series models. Their DACs employ high-quality chipsets such as the AKM4497EQ and represent a design-focused approach to audio conversion. The company emphasizes handcrafted quality and boutique manufacturing practices centered in Australia.

The brand positions itself within the high-end boutique segment rather than mainstream consumer audio. Gieseler Audio targets discerning audiophiles seeking specialized, locally-manufactured components with attention to design philosophy and sonic performance. However, comprehensive information about their full product range, market reputation, pricing strategy, and broader industry standing is not sufficiently detailed in available sources to provide a complete market assessment. Interested buyers should consult direct manufacturer resources or specialist audio publications for more comprehensive brand evaluation.
