The timing matters mostly because the MICROZOTL is a known, established design rather than a fast-churning product line, so age is less about model obsolescence and more about service history and condition. At US$5,099, this is ambitious against your recent comparable market: it sits well above the US$4,220 75th percentile and far over the US$3,190 median, so it’s not a fair-price buy on numbers alone.
What makes it attractive is the brand’s reputation for unusually transparent, low-fatigue tube sound with strong dynamics and a very “alive” presentation, which is exactly why these pieces keep a loyal following. If this one is genuinely clean, includes the right power supply and accessories, and has documented care, the upside is buying a respected line-stage with real staying power—but at this ask, I’d want exceptional condition and provenance before leaning in.
Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.
Linear Tube Audio is an American hi-fi brand founded in 2015 by Mark Schneider, with roots in the long-running engineering work of David Berning and the ZOTL tube-amplifier technology the company builds around. It is based in Maryland and presents itself as a hand-built U.S. manufacturer focused on specialist two-channel audio rather than mass-market consumer electronics.
Its core product line centers on vacuum-tube amplifiers, especially integrated amps, headphone amps, and preamps; the brand is also associated with its ZOTL-based designs, which are a signature part of its identity. Linear Tube Audio is not known as a maker of speakers, turntables, DACs, or cables, and its catalog remains relatively focused compared with broader hi-fi brands.
In the market, Linear Tube Audio sits in the high-end boutique segment. It is best regarded as a niche enthusiast brand for buyers who value tube amplification, careful hand assembly, and technically distinctive design over mainstream scale or broad product breadth.
