Seller's Description

The Technics SL-1200 is the most influential DJ turntable ever made. From its introduction in 1972 through its discontinuation in 2010 and its return in 2016, the SL-1200 has been the standard against which every other turntable in club and performance DJ use gets measured — and it has never been seriously displaced. The MK7 is the seventh generation of that platform, built on entirely newly developed components: a coreless direct-drive motor that eliminates the cogging that plagued earlier direct-drive designs, a newly engineered aluminum diecast platter, a redesigned high-rigidity chassis with high-damping insulators, and precision digital motor control that allows starting torque and brake speed to be adjusted independently across four levels. The result is a turntable that is more refined in rotation accuracy and more responsive to DJ technique than any previous SL-1200 — which is a meaningful statement given what the earlier generations were already capable of.The aluminum S-shaped tonearm is newly developed for the MK7 with a high-sensitivity pivot bearing, a stylus illuminator using a high-brightness LED for cue work in dark environments, and a no-click pitch control with pitch reset. Speeds cover 33-1/3, 45, and 78 RPM, and a reverse play function is accessible by pressing Speed Selector and Start/Stop simultaneously. Gold-plated RCA terminals, detachable phono and ground cables, and a detachable power cord complete the connection setup. At 9.6kg the MK7 is a substantial, solid piece of hardware — this is not a lightweight consumer turntable, and it doesn't feel like one. This example is in excellent condition — tested and fully functional, all controls and functions operating correctly. The Odyssey flight case is a meaningful inclusion for anyone gigging or transporting this table. No stylus or cartridge is included — the headshell is present and ready for mounting your preferred cartridge.- Make: Technics (Panasonic)- Model: SL-1200MK7- Color: black- Drive system: coreless direct-drive motor with precision digital control- Platter: aluminum diecast, 332mm diameter- Speeds: 33-1/3, 45, 78 RPM; reverse play function- Starting torque: adjustable, 4 levels- Brake speed: adjustable, 4 levels- Tonearm: aluminum S-shape, high-sensitivity pivot bearing, adjustable counterweight- Pitch control: no-click, with pitch reset- Stylus illuminator: high-brightness white LED- Outputs: gold-plated RCA phono terminals, detachable cables- Ground: detachable earth lead- Power: detachable AC cord- Weight: 9.6kg (21.2 lbs)- Cartridge/stylus: not included- Modifications: none- Includes: Odyssey black flight case, dust cover, slipmat, slipsheet, EP adaptor, balance weight, headshell, cartridge mounting hardware, phono cable, ground lead, power cordShips carefully packed and insured for full value.International buyers are welcome — please contact us for a shipping quote before purchasing.About Mill River MusicMill River Music is an independent, human-powered music shop located in downtown Northampton, MA, run by a team of players, enthusiasts, and certified repair technicians. About Technics

Technics: Japanese Precision Engineering Since 1965

Technics emerged in 1965 as a premium audio brand established by Matsushita Electric, now known as Panasonic, with headquarters in Osaka, Japan. The brand name derives from the word "technology" and was originally conceived to showcase Matsushita's high-end audio capabilities. The company's founding philosophy centered on rigorous acoustic research and engineering excellence rather than relying solely on subjective listening impressions. This commitment to scientific methodology became the cornerstone of Technics' identity and product development approach.

The brand built its reputation across a comprehensive range of audio equipment, including turntables, amplifiers, loudspeakers, CD players, tape recorders, and digital pianos. Technics achieved international prominence through its revolutionary direct-drive turntables, beginning with the SP-10 professional model in 1969 and the consumer-focused SL-1100 in 1971. The iconic SL-1200 series, introduced in 1972, fundamentally transformed DJ culture and remains highly coveted by both professional DJs and audiophiles. These turntables set new industry standards for precision engineering and reliability.

Technics occupies a distinctive position as a high-end heritage brand with particular strength in the turntable segment. While the company largely withdrew from consumer markets in the early 2000s, the brand has maintained prestige among serious audio enthusiasts and collectors. Today, Technics represents a bridge between vintage audio collecting and contemporary hi-fi, with its products commanding respect for their build quality, sonic performance, and historical significance in audio culture.
