I am selling my NAIM NAT-01 FM tuner (S/N 106505) because I don't need it anymore in my downsized life. It has been a stalwart audio companion and the source of much of my classical musical education. There is nothing like a really good FM broadcast via roof antenna if you have the right FM tuner...
Is this A$1,602 Naim NAT 01 tuner a fair buy or a stretch? At A$1,602, the asking price sits just above the A$1,580 75th percentile from your database, making it slightly ambitious but not unreasonable for a well-maintained unit. It’s roughly A$43 over the median of A$1,559, so treat it as a fair-to-high-end market price rather than a bargain.
The NAT 01 is a respected digital tuner known for clean FM/AM reception and seamless integration with Naim’s ecosystem, especially when paired with its original NAPST power supply. If this listing includes the NAPST, original cables, and shows no signs of age-related wear, it’s a solid opportunity for a Naim-focused system. Watch for power supply compatibility and clock drift only if the tuner has been heavily used; otherwise, it’s a reliable, well-loved piece worth considering at this price.

Naim Audio, a cornerstone of British hi-fi excellence, traces its origins to 1973 when Julian Vereker, a self-taught engineer, racing driver, and music enthusiast, formally incorporated the company in Salisbury, Wiltshire. Vereker's journey began earlier, in 1969, experimenting with tape recording and sound-to-light boxes before designing his first power amplifier in 1971. Amid the British hi-fi industry's recession, he secured a pivotal contract with Capital Radio, blending entrepreneurial grit with a passion for authentic sound reproduction that challenged conventional wisdom.
The brand specializes in premium integrated amplifiers, power amplifiers, preamplifiers, digital streamers, DACs, and compact music systems, often featuring built-in amplification for streamlined setups. While not delving into speakers—beyond a historical foray—or headphones and turntables, Naim emphasizes modular, upgradable components that prioritize pace, rhythm, and timing (PRaT), a signature sonic philosophy rooted in the "source first" approach alongside contemporaries like Linn.
Naim holds a commanding position in the high-end market, revered by discerning audiophiles for its handmade, innovative systems that deliver emotional musical engagement over mere specifications. Now part of VerVent Audio Group following a 2011 merger with Focal, it exports to over 45 countries, sustaining a cult following for resilient, influential designs that transcend economic cycles.
