The Rega Planar 3 is a British-made belt-drive turntable built around a hand-assembled RB330 tonearm, engineered using 3D CAD/CAM technology with a redesigned bearing housing and friction-free movement for precise tracking. Its 12 mm float glass 'Optiwhite' polished-edge platter sits on a redesigned sub-platter for improved accuracy, driven by a 24 V low-noise, low-vibration motor with an improved control PCB. The high-gloss acrylic laminated plinth employs double brace technology — a thickened phenolic bottom brace paired with a metalised skin phenolic top brace — forming a rigid stressed-beam assembly that minimises resonance. A high-precision brass main hub central bearing and advanced EBLT drive belt are fitted as standard, and a Mini DIN port allows connection to the Rega Neo PSU for electronic speed change. Output is via RCA/phono connections. The Planar 3 won What Hi-Fi? Product of the Year six consecutive times between 2016 and 2021, and again in 2024.
