It’s a notable classic, but the asking price is far above the recent used market. Against your database anchor points, £976 sits well over the £415 75th percentile and is roughly 2.3× the median £348, so this reads as ambitious to overpriced unless there’s something exceptional about this specific example.
That said, these TAG McLaren power amps are respected for refined, controlled sound and solid build quality, so the appeal is real if you want a well-regarded piece of late-’90s/early-2000s British hi-fi. At this price, I’d want strong evidence of value: excellent cosmetic condition, verified working order, recent servicing, and ideally original packaging or documented provenance. Without that, it’s hard to justify paying a premium this steep.
Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.
I cannot provide the requested editorial description of Tag McLaren as an audio/hi-fi brand based on these search results. The search results exclusively document McLaren as an automotive company—specifically its racing heritage beginning in 1963 under founder Bruce McLaren, and its later transition into high-performance road car manufacturing. There is no information about Tag McLaren operating in the audio or hi-fi equipment sector.
While the search results mention "TAG Electronics" as part of McLaren's corporate structure (which was rebranded to McLaren Electronic Systems), this appears to be an internal division supporting the automotive business, not a consumer audio brand.
To provide an accurate brand biography for Tag McLaren in the hi-fi space, I would need search results that specifically address their audio products, founding history in that sector, product categories, and market positioning. If Tag McLaren is indeed an audio brand, the current search results do not contain the necessary information to write a credible editorial description.
