This is a fair ask rather than a steal: €350 for a Genelec 5041A sits in sensible territory for a niche, older install sub, but it isn’t low enough to call an outright bargain without stronger condition proof. Genelec still lists the 5041A as a professional active in-wall sub with a 35 Hz–95 Hz response and included RAM3 amp, but it’s a discontinued model, so used value depends heavily on working status and completeness rather than age alone.
The upside is straightforward: if you need compact, serious low end for a Genelec-based system, these are well-regarded for clean, controlled bass and integration-friendly tuning. At this price, I’d want confirmation that the RAM3 amplifier is included, that all cables/brackets/grilles are present, and that it powers up quietly with no hum or low-frequency distortion; if those boxes are ticked, it’s a solid buy for the right setup.
Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.
Genelec Oy traces its roots to 1978 in the small Finnish town of Iisalmi, where engineers Ilpo Martikainen and Topi Partanen co-founded the company. It began with a 1976 commission from the Finnish Broadcasting Corporation to design active studio monitors for their Helsinki headquarters, leading to the flagship S30 model—a pioneering speaker with advanced amplification, driver protection, and a proprietary ribbon tweeter that set new benchmarks in precision audio.
The brand specializes in active loudspeaker systems, focusing on professional studio monitors for recording, mixing, mastering, broadcast, and film production. Genelec's portfolio emphasizes nearfield, midfield, and main monitors, often enhanced by innovations like Smart Active Monitoring (SAM), Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM) software for room calibration, and immersive audio solutions. While primarily pro-oriented, their products appeal to discerning home audiophiles seeking uncolored, adaptable sound reproduction.
Genelec holds a commanding position as a high-end leader in professional audio monitoring, renowned for Finnish engineering excellence, technological firsts, and unwavering neutrality. Over four decades, it has equipped the world's top studios, earning a reputation for reliability, innovation, and sustainable design that discerning hi-fi buyers trust for truthful sound without compromise.
