Amphion Loudspeakers Oy traces its roots to 1998, when Finnish entrepreneur and engineer Anssi Hyvönen, alongside partners Petteri Koljonen and Antti Louhivaara, founded the company in Helsinki. Inspired by early encounters with high-fidelity sound in his hometown of Kuopio, Hyvönen drew on international experience in audio sales to establish a brand rooted in technical precision. The operation relocated to Kuopio in 2000 for practical reasons, including proximity to manufacturing resources, where it remains today as a small, dedicated outfit of around 17 employees crafting products entirely by hand in Finland.

The brand specializes in loudspeakers, offering both passive models for home hi-fi—such as the acclaimed Argon, Xenon, and Helium series—and professional studio monitors introduced in 2013. Their lineup extends to bass extenders and amplifiers, including the recent active One25A monitor, but eschews categories like turntables, DACs, headphones, or cables. This focused portfolio emphasizes room-independent acoustic design, minimizing sensitivity to listening environment flaws for transparent, uncolored reproduction.

Amphion occupies a niche boutique position in the high-end market, prized by discerning audiophiles and professionals for its award-winning transparency and build quality. Exported to 58 countries since early successes at shows like High End Munich in 2000, it commands respect for Finnish craftsmanship—evidenced by the Key Flag Symbol—while maintaining a modest scale that prioritizes enduring performance over mass production.
