This is an older but still capable receiver, and at A$372 it lands above what I’d call fair used-money for a 2014-era Sony network AVR of this class. The DN850 was positioned as a value model with 7.2 channels, 4K passthrough, Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth, and 24/192 hi-res support, but it’s not rare enough or modern enough to justify a premium unless the condition is exceptional and it’s coming with the original remote, calibration mic, and tidy ownership history.
As a buy, it makes sense if you want a straightforward home-theater hub for a modest system and value Sony’s easy UI and streaming features more than lots of HDMI inputs or cutting-edge formats. The upside is that well-kept examples can be solid, hassle-free performers, but at this price I’d want proof it’s fully functional, with no flaky HDMI, network, or standby issues and all accessories included.
