Recent used asks cluster roughly around €690-€770 for more typical US listings after a reasonable EUR conversion, with higher European used examples around €1,500+, so €1,000 lands in the sweet spot: not bargain-bin, but clearly favorable for the model.
That matters because the AVR5 is well liked for its musical, Class AB sound, solid 7.1.4 Atmos/DTS:X processing, and generally higher-end front-end for a home cinema rig than many mass-market AVRs. At this price, a clean “excellent” unit is a sensible buy if it includes the remote, room-correction setup, and original accessories; those details add real value and reduce hassle.
