If you’re comparing it with a modern DAC/preamp at this price, A$1,399 looks ambitious against the recent used market: it sits well above the A$1,231 75th percentile and even farther from the A$1,003 median and A$870 25th percentile. On the numbers alone, this is asking top-of-range money for a used piece.
That said, this is a respected Pro-Ject front-end, and the Pre Box RS DAC is attractive if you want a compact, audiophile-leaning unit with a proper desktop/small-rack footprint and a good reputation for clean, detailed conversion. At this level I’d want some value add—excellent condition, original packaging, remote, proof of careful ownership, or recently serviced status—to justify the premium.
