Compared with the obvious alternative at this price point—paying around the median €490 for a similar used preamp—this one at €595 is on the firm side rather than a bargain. It sits above the typical market center and closer to the upper end of the recent range, so I’d call it ambitious unless this unit has something extra going for it, such as exceptional cosmetic condition, a recent service, or original accessories.
That said, this is a respected Technics control preamp and a solid choice if you want a clean, capable analogue hub with classic build quality. The upside here is mainly in usability and provenance: if it’s genuinely well kept and fully functional, it can be a very satisfying long-term buy. At this price, I’d want confidence on switch noise, selector contacts, and overall service history before pulling the trigger.
