Condition is unknown, so the price has to do the heavy lifting here—and at US$575 it lands above the 75th percentile of US$500, so this is ambitious rather than a value buy. Against a recent comp set centered at US$422, it’s a noticeable premium, and I’d want clear proof of service, originality, or exceptional cosmetics before calling it justified.
That said, this line is still a respected vintage receiver: the SX-636 has the warm Pioneer sound, solid tuner section, and enough power for efficient bookshelves or a smaller room. If it’s truly clean, unmodified, and fully working, the appeal is real—but at this asking price, any tired controls, weak lamps, or scratchy channels should push you to negotiate hard rather than pay full ask.
