The PM300 sits in Carver’s pro lineup as a solid, no-nonsense piece, but US$601 is ambitious unless this is exceptionally clean, fully tested, and includes the right extras. Typical used Carver pieces in this family often land closer to the US$300–500 zone when working and cleaned up, while unknown-condition gear can fall much lower, so this asking price is above what I’d call a straightforward fair buy.
It’s still a worthwhile preamp if you value Carver’s late-’80s/’90s character: practical feature set, decent phono/line handling, and a reputation for punching above its weight when healthy. The upside is strongest if the unit is original, quiet, and comes with the box, manual, or proof of service; at this price, you want confidence that all controls are clean and every input/output is behaving properly.
