Rega Planar 3 Turntable SALE PENDING - An early model Planar 3 with Grace 707 tonearm. The turntable has done minor issues (reflected in the price) The tonearm has one missing clip on the red wire and the lowering mechanism isn’t working. Everything else works well. Could use a new belt as well. Was recently in use but broke the clip when trying to change cartridge and gave up on it. Too many turntables so my loss if your gain if your handy with a soldering iron. Grab a bargain. Condition: Fair Payment Method: PayPal, EFT, Cash on Pickup Region/State: (VIC) Victoria/Australia By Bookaboo 0
Is this a buy-it-now bargain? At A$280, this sits well below the A$605 25th percentile and far under the A$948 median of recent AUD comparables, so it reads as a strong deal rather than merely fair pricing. For a Planar 3, that’s the kind of number that usually leaves room for a cartridge upgrade or a service check and still keeps you ahead of the market.
That’s why it’s worth a close look: the Planar 3 is a genuinely respected deck for its speed stability, low-noise bearing, and musical, easy-to-like presentation. If the plinth, arm, and platter are intact and it’s complete with dust cover and power supply, this is the sort of used buy that can outperform its price quickly. The main thing to confirm is basic functionality and whether any consumables or accessories are missing.

Rega Research, founded in 1973 in Essex, England, by Roy Gandy and Tony Relph, emerged from Gandy's lifelong passion for vinyl playback. A Ford engineer and music enthusiast, Gandy built his first turntable, the Planet, in his spare time, blending the founders' surnames to create the Rega name. From humble beginnings in a derelict mill, the company quickly gained traction with early models like the Planar 2 and Planar 3, establishing its heritage as a British hi-fi pioneer dedicated to precision engineering and hand-assembly.
Rega specializes in turntables and tonearms, its cornerstone products, but has expanded into a full ecosystem including cartridges, integrated amplifiers like the Elicit and Brio, phono stages such as the Fono, and speakers like the Ela series. While early efforts included loudspeakers and electronics from the 1980s onward, the brand prioritizes vinyl-centric components over headphones, DACs, or cables, all designed in-house for musical fidelity using specialist materials and tight tolerances.
Rega holds a revered position in the high-end hi-fi market as a niche boutique icon, prized by audiophiles for affordable, lifetime-quality performance that emphasizes music over gimmicks. Globally exported to over 50 countries from its Essex facility employing more than 150, it remains a symbol of British ingenuity, with turntables like the Planar series securing enduring loyalty among vinyl revivalists.
