A$1,000 is fair to slightly strong for an MG IIIa if it’s complete and working, but not a slam-dunk bargain unless the panels have been recently refreshed. Used MG-III/IIIa pricing tends to land around the mid-hundreds in AUD when healthy, with well-kept examples and better documentation pushing higher, so this sits close to the upper-middle of normal rather than being a steal.
That said, these are beloved for the big, open, fast Magnepan presentation: exceptionally coherent mids, wide imaging, and a very natural treble when the ribbon and panel wiring are healthy. The upside is real if the socks, ribbons, and crossovers are intact and it comes with stands or service history; the main buyer risk is age-related panel degradation or a tired ribbon, so at this price I’d want proof it’s fully functional and not a project.
