Seller's Description

Monitor Audio Bronze BR1 Bookshelf Loudspeakers Selling these Bronze BR1s I picked up from the original owner. 70w @ 8 ohm 90db sensitivity These beauties are indistinguishable from a brand new set. The original owner had them set up as rears in his cinema set up. They've been fantastically looked after. Cabinets and speaker surrounds are pristine. They've got incredible sound for such a small set of speakers. The details and articulation are both excellent and the bass is surprisingly full for such a small size woofer. They pair very nicely with my vintage amps. In original box with original

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Should you pay A$300 for these, or is that too close to new-old-stock money? For a Bronze BR1, A$300 is ambitious in the used market; the model dates back to around 2010, and a very clean pair of the earlier Bronze BX1/Bronze 1 family has sold closer to about A$300 used in other markets, which puts this asking price at the top end rather than a bargain.

That said, these are still well-regarded little standmounts: lively, easy to place, and capable of a surprisingly full, tidy presentation for their size. If the pair is complete, cosmetically sharp, and includes grilles and original boxes, they make sense for a buyer who wants a compact Monitor Audio sound and values condition over chasing a deeper discount.

About Monitor Audio

Monitor Audio, a British hi-fi mainstay, traces its origins to 1972 when founder Mo Iqbal established the company in a modest factory near Cambridge, England. Starting with hands-on loudspeaker assembly in a garage-like setting, it quickly professionalized, moving to Rayleigh, Essex, in 1976 for in-house manufacturing. This heritage of meticulous British engineering has endured through expansions, including a 2004 shift of production to China while retaining design leadership in Essex, alongside strategic acquisitions like Roksan in 2016 and Blok in 2019.

The brand excels in loudspeakers across diverse categories, from high-fidelity two-channel stereo models to advanced home cinema systems, architectural installations, outdoor speakers, and lifestyle solutions. Signature innovations like the patented C-CAM Gold Dome tweeters, introduced in the 1980s and continually refined, define its sound. Complementing these are amplifiers, streamers, and integrated audio systems, reflecting a broad portfolio that prioritizes proprietary driver technologies and precise enclosure design over peripheral gear like turntables or headphones.

Positioned as a mid-to-high-end powerhouse, Monitor Audio commands respect for delivering audiophile-grade performance at accessible price points, blending relentless innovation with timeless British craftsmanship. Over five decades, it has solidified its status as a global juggernaut, appealing to discerning buyers seeking refined, dynamic sound without boutique exclusivity or vintage nostalgia.
