Seller's Description

Selling my Pro-Ject Tube Box S phono preamp. This has been a fantastic little unit and is a great option for anyone looking to get into a quality tube phono stage without spending big money. It comes with the original tubes from the factory. It has a quiet, clean presentation with the warmth and dynamics you'd hope for from a tube phono stage, and I've been very impressed with what it does for the money. The unit was used inside a glass enclosure, so it was protected from dust and has been very well cared for. It is in excellent condition and works as it should. The Tube Box S supports both MM and MC cartridges and offers adjustable loading/gain settings, making it a surprisingly flexible phono stage for the price.I no longer have the original manual, but the manufacturer's manual is readily available online and is easy to follow for setting the unit up. -

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

A fair ask, leaning a touch ambitious: at US$250, it sits above the US$176 median but still well below the US$418 75th percentile, so it’s not a stretch for this model if the unit is clean and complete. It isn’t a bargain-basement score, but it’s comfortably in the reasonable zone for a desirable tube MM/MC stage.

That’s why this one is worth a look: the Tube Box S is well liked for its warm, lively presentation, solid soundstage, and useful flexibility with both MM and MC cartridges. If the listing includes the original wall wart, packaging, and the tubes test healthy, it’s a sensible buy for someone wanting a musical phono stage without jumping to newer, pricier options.

About Pro-Ject

Pro-Ject Audio Systems traces its roots to 1991 in Austria's Weinviertel region, north of Vienna, where founder Heinz Lichtenegger launched the brand amid the CD revolution. Kicked out of music school as a youth, Lichtenegger channeled his passion for analog sound into affordable, high-quality turntables at a time when vinyl seemed obsolete. His debut Pro-Ject 1, hand-assembled in the Czech Republic, earned rave reviews as a top high-end device, igniting a success story that relocated headquarters to Vienna before returning to Mistelbach in Lower Austria.

The brand excels in turntables, establishing itself as the world's largest and leading producer in that category, while expanding into a full spectrum of hi-fi components since 2000. Offerings include amplifiers, DACs, headphone amps, speakers, cables, and phono stages, all emphasizing essential sound reproduction with durable materials and minimalist design. Manufacturing remains European—primarily in Czechia, Slovakia, and Germany—prioritizing sustainability through local sourcing, short transport, and products built for longevity.

Pro-Ject holds a commanding niche as the go-to for mid-tier audiophiles seeking boutique European craftsmanship without extravagant pricing. Distributed in over 80 countries, it appeals to vinyl revivalists and discerning buyers who value analog purity, innovation, and value-driven performance over flashy excess, cementing its reputation as a pioneer in accessible high-fidelity.
