Overview

Epicon 8 features Dali's in-house developed and manufactured wood fibre based woofers along with a hybrid tweeter module comprised of a soft dome and a planar tweeter. The planar tweeter provides wide dispersion as the soft dome becomes more directional at higher frequencies.

Dali's Soft Magnetic Composite (SMC) material, with high magnetic conductivity and low electrical conductivity reduces distortion caused by mechanical loss in the magnet system.

A 6 layer, MDF cabinet with a real-wood veneer finished with 10 layers of hand polished lacquer, is assembled as a curved cabinet to reduce unwanted reflections. Separate chambers isolate each driver, with in-line bass ports to minimise turbulence.

Patented Soft Magnetic Composite (SMC) magnet motor system

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Big Dali floorstanders like these are always worth a look because they’re built for scale, drive, and an easy, open presentation. At A$8,000, this sits well below the A$10,155 25th percentile and far under the A$12,310 median, so it reads as a strong buy rather than merely fair value.

The EPICON 8 is a respected high-end speaker for a reason: it can deliver serious bass authority, a spacious soundstage, and a refined top end without sounding clinical. At this price, the upside is clear if the pair is clean, complete, and working properly; just confirm driver condition, cabinet finish, and whether the original grilles, spikes, and boxes are included, because those details matter most on a speaker of this level.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Dali

DALI, or Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industries, traces its roots to 1983, when Peter Lyngdorf founded the company in Denmark as the in-house speaker brand for his Hi-Fi Klubben retail chain, established three years earlier. Born in the back office of that operation, DALI quickly outgrew its origins, relocating to a dedicated factory in the small town of Nørager in 1986. There, it has since expanded fourfold, embodying Denmark's storied legacy in audio innovation—from the world's first electro-dynamic loudspeaker to a precise sonic balance that tempers robust bass with refined highs.

The brand's focus remains squarely on loudspeakers, offering nearly twenty lines spanning compact bookshelf models, floorstanders, soundbars, subwoofers, Atmos and in-wall systems, center channels, and wireless options, including portable Bluetooth variants. Each speaker is hand-assembled by a single craftsman, computer-calibrated for consistency, and often features DALI's proprietary wood-fiber cone material for a distinctive look and natural tonality. While production of entry-level models occurs at a Danish-managed facility in China, premium lines emerge from Nørager, upholding meticulous acoustic design under the Low Loss philosophy to minimize distortion.

DALI holds a commanding yet understated position as the world's second-largest cabinet speaker manufacturer, distributed in over 70 countries with undeniable audiophile credentials. Renowned for high-end performance like the MegaLine series, it spans accessible price points to premium tiers, blending Scandinavian design, reliability, and expressive dynamics. Though less heralded in North America, its global reputation among discerning buyers underscores versatile, installer-friendly excellence.
