We have vintage Adcom GFA-1A stereo power amplifier for sale. It came into our shop from an estate. I am listening to it now and it sounds great! It features 200 watts rms per channel very conservatively. More than enough headroom for most home stereo systems. It is in good condition and works perfectly. I’ll repeat myself again. They just don’t make things of near the same quality like they used to. This amp has been rock solid for 45+ years and will probably last another 45+ years! To buy anything comparable today will cost 10 times as much. I’m sure if you’re looking at this, you are familiar with Adcom and it’s reputation. Just check the pictures for the cosmetic condition. US$229 is a fair-to-good ask for this amp, not a steal, but still solid if it’s clean and functioning properly. Recent market signals put working examples roughly from about US$125 on the low end to the low US$300s, with asking prices around US$300 not unusual, so this sits a bit under the middle of the pack.
What makes it worthwhile is the classic Adcom appeal: stout, no-nonsense power, an easy load for many vintage and modern speakers, and a reputation for punchy, dependable sound. The upside is better if it’s an original, unmolested unit with no channel imbalance, crackle, or protection issues; if it’s been serviced, that adds real value. At this price, a verified healthy example is a good buy.
