This is a late-’80s/early-’90s ES-series deck, so timing matters less than condition: the replacement-model story is irrelevant here, and surviving clean examples are the real variable. At €450, this sits a bit above the clear sweet spot; comparable recent asking prices cluster more around about €350–€400, with cleaner or very well-presented examples pushing a little higher, so I’d call €450 slightly ambitious rather than a bargain.
That said, it’s a respected player for good reason: solid transport, classic Sony build, and a presentation that still has real appeal to vintage-CD fans. If it’s genuinely quiet, fully working, and includes the remote and original paperwork, the premium is easier to swallow because good examples are getting harder to find. I’d still want strong confirmation of laser health, drawer behavior, and any servicing history before paying top-end money.
