Pioneer SA-8800 fully functional Tape Monitor 1, 2, AUX, Tuner work in addition to all control knobs and switches. On Phono 1, 2 the Right channel sounds fine, on the left side audio comes in but is not as clear as the right side, I used a tape deck as input. Because of the age of these devices they must be lubricaTed to minimize static, noise and continuity. This has been addressed with DeoxIT D5. It does wonders to the feel of the controls. There are scratches on the face plate if you look close enough. Selling because I found one with a new face plate as an audiophile collector the look is also important. The speaker post for A are upgrade. The rear of the amp was a voltage switch that was repaired. Inside the amp at the rear is a slight dent. it is not obvious from the rear but it’s something I noticed when installing the speaker terminals.Sold AS-IS, I bought this from a seller in New York last yea.
Unknown condition at US$1,200 makes this a very ambitious ask against a typical used market centered at US$198, with US$103 at the 25th percentile and US$474 at the 75th. Even allowing for strong cosmetics or service history, this is well beyond the usual range and would need exceptional provenance or documented restoration to feel justified.
That said, the SA-8800 is a respected late-’70s Pioneer piece, prized for its solid build, classic silver-face appeal, and musical, full-bodied sound when properly serviced. If it’s truly clean, original, and recently restored, the upside is in buying a desirable collector-grade unit; otherwise, the buyer should want clear proof of work, as age-related issues in switches, pots, and alignment can quickly eat into value at this level.
