Unit is able to track and play any CD or DVD that is loaded into it, without showing any incongruities in playback quality that can note. All buttons along the face are appropriately responsive to their designated actions, and the display screen shines brightly when the unit is on and running. Only notable flaw would be that one of the rubber feet was missing when I acquired this unit, so I took the remaining three off, and replaced everything with felt furniture pads to level the unit out properly. Player is in decent shape cosmetically, showing only some signs of age-related wear along the exterior. No notable points of damage inflicted along any edge or face of the units metal housing or front display. Unfortunately this unit does not come with any remote control, but will be shipped with a set of component and stereo RCAs as shown in the listing images. At US$249, it’s right around the going rate for a clean, working DV78; recent used examples have clustered around roughly US$100–US$250 depending on completeness and condition, with a tested unit selling at US$250 and rougher or missing-accessory examples landing lower.
What makes it interesting is that the DV78 is one of Arcam’s better-regarded disc players: smooth, refined CD playback, good build, and enough format support to make it a flexible vintage digital box. If it’s truly tested, includes the remote, and the drawer/laser behave properly, this is a solid enthusiast buy rather than a gamble.
