Is US$550 a fair entry point for a Quad 405? Against the recent used market, it sits above the US$474 75th percentile, so this reads as ambitious rather than a bargain. It is not absurd for a clean, tested example, but there is no clear price advantage here.
That said, the 405 is well-regarded for its muscular, stable, very listenable presentation, and it has real pedigree as a classic British power amp. If this one is original, quiet, and fully working, the appeal is the sound and history more than the price; at this level, though, I’d want confidence in condition, service history, and any included accessories before jumping in.
