Very nice, very clean! This is a beauty... cleaned, lubed, balanced and aligned. Tracks dead on at 33 and 45 RPM. This one is equipped with a Shure 500s cartridge and a new 676-DE stylus! Auto return works as it should.This turntable comes with a brand new, crystal clear, aftermarket dustcover. The feet have been refurbished with new isolation pads top and bottom to provide better vibration dampening and no "old foot squat". The vinyl laminate is perfect, no delamination or discoloration. If you prefer wood veneer I can provide that option in walnut or cherrywood for $200. That includes a custom brushed aluminum badge to replace the print on the vinyl. At US$500, this is clearly above the typical used-market center for comparable turntables, and it lands just over the upper quartile, so I’d call it ambitious rather than fair unless the condition and extras are genuinely excellent. Against a median of US$199 and a 75th percentile of US$475, the asking price needs real justification.
That said, the PL-516 is a well-regarded vintage automatic deck with the kind of straightforward Pioneer build that can still be very satisfying in a secondary system. If it’s been serviced, runs quietly, and includes a healthy cartridge, dust cover, and good plinth cosmetics, the premium becomes easier to understand; if not, the buyer should expect to negotiate hard, because age-related wear and auto-return issues can matter more here than on simpler manual tables.
