For a vintage Audio Research preamp, that’s a serious premium, and it will need to be more than just “working” to justify it.
That said, the SP8 is a respected classic: open, fast, harmonically rich, and still a lovely match for revealing power amps if you want real tube preamp character without mush. If it’s been serviced properly, has quiet channels, and comes with original packaging, manuals, or documented work, it could still make sense for a collector or someone chasing this specific sound. At this price, I’d want hard proof of condition and maintenance before buying.
