The A-8870 has a good reputation as a stout, well-built Integra-era amp, but US$1,391 is far beyond what this model typically changes hands for used. Recent asking and sold prices cluster roughly around US$150–US$400, with even clean, serviced examples usually landing well under US$500, so this listing looks wildly ambitious rather than merely strong.
That said, it’s a worthwhile piece when priced sensibly: plenty of current, decent phono performance, and the kind of muscular, listenable Onkyo sound that still pulls fans in. At this price, the buyer should only move if the unit is effectively mint, fully serviced, and packed with real extras like the remote, documentation, and proof of recap or overhaul; otherwise, it’s a pass.
