The Sony PS-LX56 is a belt-drive stereo turntable powered by a DC servo motor for consistent speed accuracy, spinning records at both 33 and 45 RPM. It features a 300mm platter, a dynamic-balance tonearm with an effective length of 203mm, and a moving magnet cartridge fitted with a 0.6 mil diamond stylus - with the CN-234 as the designated replacement stylus. Frequency response runs the full 20-20,000Hz range, wow and flutter is rated at 0.2%, and signal-to-noise ratio is quoted at 60dB. The automatic system includes return and reject functions for hands-free operation, and a dust cover is included to protect the platter and stylus. Note that there is some ambiguity around whether this model carries a built-in phono preamp; if connecting to a receiver or amplifier without a dedicated phono input, an external RIAA phono stage may be required.
