This one is from the earlier-2000s Quadral era, so timing matters mostly in the sense that you’re buying a discontinued active sub with a known following rather than a current-platform piece. At €85, it looks like a solid buy: typical used asking prices I found cluster more around roughly €90 to €130, with some higher outliers for cleaner or bundled examples, so €85 sits toward the value end rather than the speculative end.
What makes it worthwhile is the honest, compact active-sub package: the SUB 48 DV is well regarded for straightforward, musical bass and does the job well in a surround setup without needing heroic positioning. If it’s fully working and the amp plate is quiet, that’s the main thing; at this price, a clean cabinet and intact driver make it appealing. I’d only press for a demo to confirm no hum, crackle, or soft bass, since age is the real variable here.

Quadral emerged from Hanover, Germany in 1972 as the consumer audio division of the All Group, initially operating under the name all-akustik before adopting the Quadral brand in the late 1970s. The company's international breakthrough came with the introduction of the TITAN loudspeaker in 1981, establishing Quadral as a serious contender in premium audio. Today, Quadral operates under the ownership of Loxone, acquired in 2020, which has positioned the brand at the intersection of high-fidelity audio and intelligent building automation.
Quadral has built its reputation primarily as a loudspeaker manufacturer, with particular acclaim for its ribbon tweeters and flagship Aurum series. The company's engineering approach emphasizes clarity, tonal balance, and sophisticated acoustic design—hallmarks that quickly elevated the brand to the upper echelon of the hi-fi world upon its launch. Production of key components, including the renowned Aurum ribbon tweeters, remains based in Hanover, underscoring the brand's commitment to German manufacturing standards.
Quadral occupies the high-end to upper-midrange segment of the consumer audio market, positioning itself alongside other respected German speaker specialists. The brand appeals to discerning listeners who prioritize acoustic performance and engineering heritage over mass-market accessibility. With over five decades of experience and a track record of consistent quality, Quadral maintains credibility among serious audiophiles and collectors, though it remains less widely recognized than some larger international competitors.
