Portable tube DAC/amp with a cult following, and this one is priced a bit above the sweet spot but still not out of line. At US$1,150, it sits above the US$900 median and between the US$592 25th percentile and US$1,268 75th percentile, so this reads as a fair-to-strong asking price rather than a bargain.
The WA8 is admired for its rich, smooth presentation, built-in DAC convenience, and genuinely transportable form factor, which gives it a niche appeal that still holds value. The box and Pelican case are meaningful extras here, especially if the unit is clean and complete, because they help preserve resale and make this an easier buy for someone who wants the full package rather than a bare amp.

Woo Audio is a New York-based high-end audio company founded in the mid-2000s, with 2006 widely cited as its launch year. It was built by the Wu family, with Jack Wu as the public face of the brand and key design influence, alongside family members who helped shape the company’s early growth. Its roots are in tube electronics and a strong appreciation for live sound, which has remained central to its identity.
The brand is best known for vacuum-tube headphone amplifiers, especially models such as the WA series, along with electrostatic headphone amplifiers like the WES. Woo also makes a smaller range of speaker amps, plus related audio accessories and cables, while its website and retail focus remain centered on amplification and headphone-oriented listening rather than source components or turntables.
In the market, Woo Audio sits firmly in the boutique high-end niche. It is respected among headphone enthusiasts for handcrafted, valve-based designs, substantial build quality, and a distinctive sonic character often associated with warmth, scale, and refinement. It is not a mass-market brand; instead, it appeals to serious buyers looking for premium, specialized amplification with a strong American-made identity.
