Used in my personal listening system sparingly, extremely low hours. Only being sold as I now own a Classic Pre-amp II which has nothing sonically over the PL-L.Includes -- PL-L Preamp unit- Balanced Output Transformers option is factory-installed (see last 2 photos) - a $2k option when purchased- ACPS Power Supply unit (compatible with international voltages / frequencies)- Remote control unitSHIPPINGShips pro-packed in bomb-proof packaging via UPS Ground fully insured with Signature Confirmation----More info about the PL-LThe PL-L is a Pure Class A vacuum tube line pre-amplifier, based on the proven design concepts of the world-renowned PL-P and offering 4 inputs. It differs from the PL-P in that it does not have a phono front-end stage and is not equipped with the internal battery for total power isolation. The PL-L has a remote control allowing the different functions to be remotely selected and optimal balancing of the output transformers. The jewel-like machined anodized aluminum case features input source selection, balance and volume controls, as well as a precision modulometer for system level matching. The PL-L is designed to provide the highest quality audio performance in an ultra-high-resolution audio system. The power supply is always a key issue in the quality of a pre-amplifier. The external power supply is designed to deliver quiet and stable performance essential for the highest quality audio system. It is completely isolated from AC line noise.
The PL-L is a respected Swiss line-stage, and US$6,495 looks fair to slightly strong rather than cheap. New pricing sat around US$8,495 to US$9,495, while a clean used example has shown up around US$6,000, so this listing is close to the middle of the sensible used range rather than a bargain.
What makes it worth considering is the classic Nagra mix of speed, tonal precision, and superb build, with a remote and a very “serious component” feel in the rack. It’s especially appealing if the unit is complete, quiet, and recently serviced, since age and tube wear matter more here than with newer solid-state gear.

Nagra traces its origins to 1951, when Polish engineer Stefan Kudelski, then a 22-year-old student fleeing to Switzerland, invented the Nagra I—a groundbreaking miniature audio recorder whose name derives from the Polish word for “will record.” This portable marvel quickly gained traction in radio, cinema, and music, with the Nagra II and III models in the mid- to late 1950s revolutionizing professional sound capture. Honored with Oscars in 1978 and 1991, the brand built a legacy of Swiss precision engineering under the Kudelski family, spinning off into Audio Technology Switzerland SA in 2012 while upholding over 70 years of analog excellence from its Lake Geneva facility in Romanel.
Today, Nagra focuses on high-end hi-fi equipment alongside its professional audio recorders and security devices, offering meticulously crafted components like amplifiers, preamplifiers, CD players, DACs, and their pioneering turntable and tonearm system. Rooted in analog mastery, these products emphasize flawless sound reproduction, blending heritage tape technology with modern digital interfaces for audiophiles seeking uncompromised fidelity.
Nagra commands a revered position in the ultra-high-end market, synonymous with boutique luxury and technical supremacy for discerning buyers. Its gear appeals to collectors and professionals alike, prized for durability in high-stakes environments—from film sets to critical listening rooms—where Swiss craftsmanship delivers warmth, low noise, and precision that few rivals match.
