A classic mid-tier Denon from the late-’80s, but this asking price is on the steep side for a plain used unit. Comparable recent sales cluster more around roughly US$35 to US$120, with a working example including a remote around US$110 to US$160; at US$228, this is clearly above the usual market unless it’s exceptionally fresh, serviced, and complete.
What makes it appealing is Denon’s solid transport build and the musical, slightly warm presentation these players are known for; they’re enjoyable, straightforward CD machines when healthy. The upside is strongest if it’s been recently serviced, includes the original remote, and can be demonstrated reading discs quickly and silently. At this price, I’d want proof of laser/transport health and clear photos of the front display, tray action, and rear panel before getting interested.
