Someone has gone to the trouble of combining these components into a unique custom deck, creating a rather fascinating mix of Rega, Linn and SME engineering.The SME 3009 is a classic tonearm and a highly sought-after piece of vintage hi-fi in its own right. Ambitious ask: at US$640, this sits well above the listed used market’s US$424 75th percentile and more than doubles the US$297 median, so it does not read as a strong value unless it includes meaningful extras or exceptional condition. For a basic RP1, that’s a premium price rather than a fair one.
That said, the RP1 is a genuinely well-liked starter deck: simple, reliable, and musically satisfying, with Rega’s easy speed stability and lively, rhythmic presentation. If this is original-owner, clean, and comes with the factory cartridge, dust cover, and a recent service or notable upgrades, some of the premium is easier to justify; otherwise, I’d keep shopping unless the package is unusually complete.
