Overview

The multi-award winning Hegel H190 is a high-power integrated amplifier with digital and network streaming capabilities. It delivers 2 x 150W into 8 ohms and runs down to 2 ohms, making it suitable for demanding designs. With a damping factor of more than 4000, it offers serious control over the connected loudspeaker.

Digital playback is supported through coaxial, three optical, USB and network inputs, with streaming high-res music possible through Roon and UPnP/DLNA apps like mConnect or BubbleUPnP. AirPlay is also ready to go for casual playback. Fixed and variable RCA line-level outputs, and a balance XLR input, make system integration easy.

Hegel's SoundEngine2 error-cancelling technology prevents distortion with the signal-to-noise ratio greater than 100dB, and crosstalk below 100dB.

Housed in an anodised black aluminium chassis with an OLED display and incorporating a front-facing 1/4" headphone output for late night listening, H190 is a comprehensive solution for both analogue and modern digital audio systems.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Condition is unknown, but at A$3,700 this sits just under the A$3,700 25th percentile and below the A$3,818 median, so it reads as a solid buy rather than a premium ask. It is not quite a bargain-bin score, but it is priced in the sweet spot where a clean example should move well.

The H190 is well liked because it gives strong grip, good drive, and an easy, full-bodied sound that suits a wide range of speakers without fuss. At this level, the best upside is simple: if it is genuinely tidy, complete, and from a careful owner, you are getting a respected integrated at a sensible price with little room for disappointment.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Hegel

Hegel Music Systems traces its roots to 1988 at the Technical University in Trondheim, Norway, where student Bent Holter founded the company as part of his thesis on revolutionary transistor amplifier design. Targeting distortion—the bane of traditional hi-fi—Holter developed the patented SoundEngine technology, laying the groundwork for Hegel's enduring innovation. From modest beginnings in the early 1990s, with early DACs in 1994 and CD players by 1996, the brand expanded steadily, even hiring engineers amid the financial crisis to pioneer advanced D/A converters.

Hegel's product lineup centers on high-end electronics, excelling in integrated, pre-, and power amplifiers that deliver effortless power and precision. They also produce sophisticated standalone DACs, CD players, and phono stages, emphasizing digital integration and streaming capabilities. Manufacturing occurs in China, while Norway handles all design, circuit development, testing, and software.

Positioned firmly in the high-end hi-fi market, Hegel commands a global reputation for musicality, neutrality, and build quality, with dealers in over 60 countries and accolades like the HiFi+ Innovation Award. Collectors and discerning audiophiles prize its no-nonsense Scandinavian engineering, bridging modern digital demands with analog purity in a competitive boutique landscape.
