Very good condition. Tested and working. Very warm sound. By far the best phono stage I’ve heard in awhile. It’s legendary for a reason. Sadly I have to downsize. Based on age it is likely to need caps At some point. It has always worked for me, but I think it has some intermittent volume drops in one channel. I wiggled the cable and it worked again. It could just be old rca cables. I’m not sure. Either way it would benefit from a recap and is priced accordingly. Slight corrosion as pictured on the top cover. Face plate is in great ship with a couple tiny dings as pictured.
A classic silver Pioneer preamp is always going to draw attention, but at US$499 this one sits well above the typical used market for the category. Against a median of US$197 and a 75th percentile of US$450, the asking price is clearly ambitious rather than fair.
That said, the C-21 has the kind of straightforward vintage appeal many buyers want: clean analog control, solid build, and the Pioneer name carries real collector interest. If it’s been serviced, is genuinely clean, and includes original knobs or paperwork, some premium is easier to justify — but on price alone this is a “buy for condition and provenance” listing, not a value play.
