This A$449 asking price is ambitious, sitting well above the median of A$165 and the 75th percentile of A$198 for recent AUD listings of the Digidesign Pro Control. At nearly double the 75th percentile, it’s not a bargain and doesn’t reflect typical used market value for this older processor.
The Pro Control remains a legendary remote-control panel and edit controller for Pro Tools, prized for its tactile workflow and sleek 8- or 32-fader design that still looks professional today. However, it’s a 2004-era unit with no modern support, and some users report weak preamps and awkward control layouts. At this price, you’d need to confirm it’s in excellent condition, includes all necessary cables/software, and functions fully—otherwise, it’s hard to justify over cheaper, more reliable alternatives.

Digidesign was founded in 1984 in California by Peter Gotcher and Evan Brooks. It began as a pro-audio technology company, first developing tools for sound measurement and then moving into digital recording and editing, where it became closely associated with the rise of Pro Tools.
Its product focus was never the classic hi-fi categories of amplifiers, speakers, turntables, or headphones. Digidesign is best known for professional audio software, digital audio workstations, and recording interfaces, especially Pro Tools and related studio hardware such as the Mbox and HD Native line.
In market terms, Digidesign is a professional-studio brand rather than a consumer hi-fi label. Its reputation is strongest in recording, mixing, and post-production, where Pro Tools became an industry standard; for hi-fi buyers, it is more of a niche, legacy pro-audio name than a brand for home listening gear. After Avid absorbed the company, the Digidesign name was phased out, so much of its relevance today is historical and collector-oriented.
