Seller's Description

Violectric v550 Headphone Amplifier For sale is my Violectric v550 headphone amplifier. This is the standard version which is identical to the Pro version but with a high quality volume pot instead of a stepped attenuator.   The amp was purchased new from A2A in April 2023 (receipt available) and is in excellent condition with all original packaging. This is a serious, state of the art, end-game headphone amplifier, and I am already regretting selling it.   Pick up from the lower north shore is available, or I am happy to post at the buyer's cost and risk.       Condition: Excellent Payment Me

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

The Violectric v550 is a respected, studio-grade headphone amplifier known for its robust power and balanced output, but this A$2,600 asking price is ambitious compared to the current used market. Based on three recent AUD listings, the median price sits at A$1,836, with the 75th percentile at A$2,200, meaning this listing exceeds the top quarter of comparable sales by A$400. While the condition is listed as excellent, the price is significantly above the typical range, suggesting you should only pay full asking if the unit includes rare upgrades like the stepped relay volume control or original accessories that justify the premium.

If you are willing to negotiate closer to the A$2,000–A$2,200 range, the v550 becomes a compelling buy for its 6.4W per channel output at 50 ohms and dual XLR/6.35mm headphone outputs that handle demanding drivers effortlessly. Its reputation as the "Buick" of hi-fi—reliable, unflashy, and powerful—makes it a workhorse for serious listeners, especially if this is an original-owner unit with no hidden wear. However, at A$2,600, the upside is limited unless the seller confirms it includes the A$600 relay option or other high-value extras that would otherwise cost extra.

Independent perspective — not a price guarantee. Always verify condition, accessories and provenance before purchase.

About Violectric

Violectric emerged in 2009 as a hi-fi sub-brand of Lake People, the esteemed German pro-audio manufacturer founded in 1986 near Lake Constance. Headed by chief engineer Fried Reim, who oversees development and production in Constance, Violectric adapts Lake People's robust professional circuitry for discerning home listeners, prioritizing engineering substance over hype.

The brand specializes in headphone amplifiers, such as the seminal V200 and newer models like the HPA V324, alongside high-quality DACs including the V800 and V850. Its lineup extends to phono stages like the PPA V630 and preamps such as the PPA V600, with the ultra-premium Niimbus series—exemplified by the US5—pushing boundaries in amplification. Absent are speakers, turntables, or cables; Violectric hones in on source-to-headphone electronics.

Positioned firmly in the high-end hi-fi market, Violectric commands respect among pragmatic audiophiles for its "tools, not toys" ethos—delivering uncompromised build quality, timeless design, and sonic precision at prices from around £700 to over £3,000. Free of esoteric claims, it appeals to buyers seeking pro-grade performance in elegant, enduring packages.
