Seller's Description

Very clean & great sounding 2505. This was used in a smoke free recording studio environment. Since moving to an active speaker setup I can’t justify having this hang around just in case I get a pair of passive speakers. It’s a truly great sounding amplifier that served me well. The case has some marks and a couple of spots that the veneer has chipped or delaminated (see photos). Otherwise it’s one of the cleanest examples you’ll find.

Our Thoughts RADAR AI

Against your recent comp set, US$3,000 sits above the US$1,925 median and clearly over the US$2,500 75th percentile, so this is an ambitious ask rather than a fair-market bargain. It would need something special behind it—exceptional cosmetic condition, fresh service, original packaging, or a notably strong provenance—to justify the premium.

That said, the MC 2505 is a well-loved McIntosh classic with real collector and listening appeal: authoritative, smooth power, strong build quality, and the kind of vintage presence many buyers want. If it’s been properly serviced and is clean inside and out, there can still be value here for the right owner, but at this price the details matter a lot more than usual.

About McIntosh

McIntosh Laboratory, founded in 1949 in the United States by Frank H. McIntosh and Gordon Gow, embodies a storied heritage of American audio innovation. Originally based in Silver Spring, Maryland, before relocating to Binghamton, New York, where products are still handcrafted today, the brand emerged from a commitment to superior sound reproduction. The company specializes in a comprehensive lineup of high-fidelity components, including renowned amplifiers—particularly its revered tube models for their warm, enveloping sound—along with solid-state power amps, stereo tuners, loudspeakers, turntables, music streamers, processors, and digital-to-analog converters. This breadth supports both two-channel stereo systems and multi-channel home theaters, delivering immersive experiences in music and film. Iconic blue watt meters on their gear have become globally recognized symbols of precision and power.

Positioned firmly in the high-end market, McIntosh commands respect among discerning audiophiles for its uncompromising quality, luxurious build, and timeless design.
